Ace Hudkins 136 lbs lost to Mushy Callahan 138 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1925-11-14
  • Location: Maier Park, Vernon, California, USA
  • Referee: Ernie Clark

This was a highly anticipated grudge match between two of L.A.'s most popular fighters and body guards had been placed over both, "fearing that if they met on the street they would stage that $20,000 match for nothing." Callahan, who floored Hudkins for a three count in the sixth, "was declared winner after ten rounds of the wildest, fiercest fighting seen here since the new boxing law went into effect almost a year ago. Spectators left the arena with their emotions as varied as they were in September when the two battled to a draw. Personally we thought that Hudkins won the fight. The round-by-round check shows that the Wildcat had an edge in at least four sessions and possibly five. Callahan was out in front in two stanzas while the other four were even. Ace fought his best fight and lost because of the knockdown, which, to us, was not enough of an edge to offset the relentless attack he waged during the rest of the fight. Ace deserved nothing less than a draw." Los Angeles Times
