Both boxers were cut over their eyes, after a 2nd round clash of heads, with Kramer going to the canvas for a brief spell as Kaplan also hit him with a left hook during the collision. Kaplan won every round, according to the New York Times, as he hit Kramer to the head with both hands. Kramer was battered in the 6th and 7th round, and went to his corner at the end of the 7th round, with his right eye swollen shut. Kramer sustained another cut along his eyes in the 8th round, and was pounded again in the 8th round, with many in the crowd yelling for a stoppage. The pounding continued in the 9th round, and referee Sheridan began to look to Kramer's corner for the towel, which they eventually threw in to the ring.
Odds: Kaplan 6-to-5 favorite
