Johnny Saxton 153 lbs lost to Joe Miceli 147 lbs by TKO at 3:00 in round 3 of 10
- Date: 1957-09-06
- Location: Capitol Arena, Washington, District of Columbia, USA
Joe Miceli jolted Johnny Saxton’s comeback campaign tonight by bashing the former welterweight champion all over the ring at the Capitol Arena in Washington D.C. and winning on a fourth-round technical knockout. Saxton outweighed Miceli, 153 ½ to 147 ½. Ring physician Clark Halstead called off the fight after examining Saxton at the end of the third round. Saxton bled heavily from the mouth and was glassy-eyed. Miceli, a 2-1 underdog, floored Saxton twice – once in the first round with a surprise right and again with a blistering left. Saxton, a fading ex-champ, also hit the canvas three other times during the action-packed battle, but referee Charley Reynolds said those tumbles resulted from a slip or push.
