Akins stood back in the first two rounds, allowing LeRoy to take the initiative with long lefts to the head. In the 3rd round, Akins began to hit LeRoy at long range with lefts to the head, which were followed by right crosses. LeRoy finished the 3rd round with blood dripping from his nose. In the 4th round, Akins stepped inside and landed a series of blows to the head of LeRoy, who refused to drop. LeRoy was wobbly though, and the referee stepped in and gave him a standing eight-count. Upon resumption of the action, Akins continued with his attack, and though LeRoy did not appear worse for wear, the bout was stopped.
