Virgil Akins, ring-rusty after a 10-month layoff, still had enough to pound out an eight-round TKO over Joey Greenwood of Akron, Ohio in the last bout of the evening. Akins scored a knockdown in the fifth and two more in the seventh. He turned tiger in the seventh and really poured it on a game, but outclassed Greenwood, and the Akron boy couldn’t come out for the eighth. Greenwood weighed 143 1/2, just a half pound less than Akins who showed the effects of his long layoff. Virgil, throughout the first part of the fight, missed repeatedly with long lefts and rights.
