Virgil Akins of St. Louis and Johnny Brown, from Chicago plodded through an eight-round draw in the last match of the evening. The fight was dull one for the first four rounds and, if possible, grew duller. At the beginning of the sixth round Referee Jimmy Parker called the two men together in the middle of the ring and asked them if they could possibly speed up the action a little bit.
