Steele staggered Jones with a left hook in the 1st round. Jones came back to win the next two rounds, as he became more cautious and out-boxed Steele. Steele won the 4th, despite a late Jones rally. The 5th round was even, and Steele won the 6th round. Jones hurt Steele with a hard right hand, to take the 7th round. After an even 8th round, Jones swept the last two rounds. Steele forced the fight, as he appeared to be looking for the knockout, while Jones was content to outbox his man.
