Jones handled Steele during the first three rounds and piled up a nice lead. Steele began finding a home for his left hook in the 4th round, as he slowed Jones attack. The two fought an even 5th round, as Steele split Jones nose and lip. Steele had a slight edge in the 6th round, and the 7th round was even. Steele controlled the last three rounds, as he backed Jones to the ropes. Though his right hand was injured, he landed repeatedly with his left hand. At the conclusion of the fight, Jones raised Steele's hand in token for his opponent's apparent victory.
Steele injured his right hand in the 6th round, after missing a right hand and landing it on the shoulder blade of Jones.
