On February 21, 1957 Aragon was convicted of conspiring to offer another fighter $500 to lose a fight. The bout this was to have occurred in, was a December 18, 1956 bout in San Antonio, Texas, that was called off at the last minute due to Aragon's illness. On August 23, 1957 the California State District of Appeals, reversed Aragon's conviction and sent the case back for retrial.
