Evans, a nimble boxer, took the first two rounds as he out-maneuvered Montgomery. Evans dispensed with his footwork in the 3rd round, allowing Montgomery to land. Montgomery was cut and swollen along the left eye in the 4th round. Montgomery who worked the body heavily, lost the 8th round on a low blow. Montgomery threw more blows in the last two rounds, though Evans blocked many of them.
