Arizmendi opened the bout landing looping right hands to Garrison's head. Arizmendi had a strong 4th round, pounding Garrison to the ropes with both hand to head and body, as Garrison countered weakly with his left. Arizmendi had a good 5th and 6th rounds, and an even stronger 7th, backing Garrison into a corner. After a give-and-take 8th round, Garrison took the upper hand in the bout in the 9th round, cutting Arizmendi over his left eye. Arizmendi came back strongly in the final round. The decision was met with a loud chorus of boos. The Los Angeles Times, also disagreed with the verdict favoring Arizmendi 6-2-2.
