Curtis attacked Montana to the body, while Montana worked upstairs, landing cleanly at times, without hurting Curtis. The Honolulu Advertiser felt it was a close bout, and favored Montana 5-4-1 in rounds, noting that many fans felt Curtis deserved a draw. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin also agreed with the verdict, favoring Montana 4-3-3 in rounds.
