A newspaper report of this bout, found in Dragan's personal scrapbook, said that Mendez, of Mexico City and the featherweight champion of Mexico, had fought two draws with the famed Fidel LaBarba, but LaBarba's record does not support that claim.

Mendez was knocked outside of the ring at 1:18, so Referee Joyce counted to 20, rather than the usual 10.
