Small Montana 110 lbs lost to Little Pancho 114 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1940-01-10
  • Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
  • Pancho controlled the bout all the way, winning all the rounds, except possibly the 4th. Montana first ran into trouble in the 5th, when he was dropped for an eight count by a right hand. Montana got up and was pinned in the corner, where he took a terrible beating. Pancho again had Montana on the verge of a knockout in the 9th, but eased up and carried his opponent in the last two rounds. The crowd cheered for Pancho, apparently appreciating his gesture to carry his old roomate and fellow countryman. Montana finished the fight with his left eye closed, and much of his face heavily swollen.
