Cottrell gave Callahan a surprisingly difficult fight. Callahan struggled to land punches to Cottrell's jaw, with the bout being even in the eyes of the Los Angeles Express, going into the final round. Callahan scored a knockdown in the opening round, but Cottrell would recover by the next round, and was able to crowd and land on Callahan, forcing him to retreat.
