The decision was originally ruled a draw, but commissioner Joseph Rainey, changed the bout to a win for Willis after determining that the referee's scorecard was incorrect and that he had Willis winning. Pennsylvania rules dictated that if the judges disagreed, the referee's scorecard determined the winner, in this case Willis. Willis scored four knockdowns in the 4th round, with right hands, but landed several low blows that hampered Burns.
