This was generally regarded as a bad decision. "Ike Morales, boxing critic of the New Orleans Item, awarded Linson six rounds, Thompson three, and one even." (The Ring, November 1948, page 55. The New Orleans Times-Picayune, did not seem to have an issue with the decision, feeling that Thompson landed the better shots, to offset the higher volume of blows landed by Linson.
