Panter was rocked into the ropes in the 3rd round, and took a battering in the 4th and 5th rounds, taking an eight-count in the 5th round. Panter wanted to quit before the 6th round, claiming sickness, but was told to continue by the ringside physician. Panter was knocked down for a nine-count in the 7th round, but wobbled Lane briefly in the 8th round with a left hand.
