Datto knocked Massey down in the 1st round with a left hook, for a two-count; and then scored another knockdown in the 7th for a five-count, with the same blow. Datto had taken a lacing in the three rounds prior to the 2nd knockdown, and was too tired to follow up. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette gave Massey six rounds, while only seeing Datto the winner in the two rounds that he scored knockdowns.
