Tommy, the aggressor in the bout, was awarded what the Oakland Tribune felt was a gift decision, as they scored it 5-3-2 for Wolgast. Wolgast piled up points by jabbing and hooking, while making Tommy miss with many of this best punches. Tommy closed with a strong 10th round, and opened a cut on the left cheek of Wolgast. Neither boxer ever appeared hurt.
