A long left hook floored Barajas for a six-count in the 1st round. He was dropped again in the 2nd round by a series of left hooks, when he went down as he had fallen back against the ropes, and appeared to lose his balance. Barajas did much better in the 3rd through 5th round, as he stayed away from Hawkins and scored with jabs and right uppercuts. Hawkins, however, would stun Barajas before the bell to end the 6th. In the 7th, Hawkins landed frequently with his left hook and eventually split Barajas's lip. Eventually Barajas was reeling, and the referee stepped in, and stopped the bout.
