The bout was fairly even at the time of the stoppage. Curtin hurt Fitzpatrick to the body in the 8th round, and in the 9th round, sent him staggering against the ropes with a right hand. Working his body again, Curtin got Fitzpatrick to drop his hands, where he landed a right hand to the jaw that knocked Fitzpatrick out for five minutes.
