Morelia boxed on even terms with Wright for the first four rounds. In the 5th round, Wright took control as he started to batter Morelia with both hands, before dropping him with a right to the cheek for an eight-count. Morelia's right eye was closed by this point, and he clinched to make it out of the round. In the 6th round, Wright opened a bad cut on Morelia's swollen right eye; and with his opponent helpless, the bout was stopped.
