Nestell was bleeding over both eyes and had a lacerated lip in the 3rd round, when he landed a short right hand that sent Rowsey down hanging to the ropes. Rowsey rose at the count of nine, and was met by a left and right uppercut. Callahan stepped in and stopped the fight. The Los Angeles Times disagreed with the timing of the stoppage, as the round was nearly over. Rowsey jumped up and down in his corner to prove that he was still fit to continue.
