The fight was initially for vacant IBO junior middleweight title, but when it became evident Mundine would not make weight the title was ditched, Mundine claiming it was due to IBO's appointed officials and not weight. The fight was then going to proceed as non-title, but 2/3 days into the fight from outer space fell WBA International middleweight title defence - title when you haven't got a title he held prior to winning IBO World middleweight.
