Purvis entered the bout with an injured left eye, from his previous St. Louis bout. The eye bothered him throughout, as Mitchell attacked and left it badly battered at the end. Mitchell faded badly at the end, and was holding on at the last round. The bout was close, and the decision brought some boos from the crowd.
