Shaw knocked down Berlier for no-count in the 3rd round, and staggered him in the 4th round with five successive right hands. Berlier rallied to win the next three rounds, and appeared headed for a decision victory. In the 8th round, Shaw staggered Berlier with two blows to the head, and with Berlier backing away, he floored with a hard right to the head. Berlier who appeared out, staggered to his feet at nine and took a right uppercut to the stomach, before he was again floored by a right hand to the jaw. Berlier wobbled up again at nine, but this time the bout was stopped.
