Shaw easily defeated Grogan, taking seven out of ten rounds, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Grogan, who boxed cautiously through much of the bout, apologized to boxing commissioner Irwin Poche after the bout, citing problems with boxers using Shaw's style stating. "I am a slugger and I like to be fighting all the time."
