"Jack Downey, a 20-year veteran of the fighting game and holder of a decision over the redoubtable Jack Dempsey himself, took the judges decision in the main event last night at the East Side Athletic Club over Bert Tribby of the Emperor's stables. Downey opened the first with a formidable show of speed, leading freely and connecting easily. Tribby woke before the end of the round and had a few good moments and the final bell of the initial canto found Downey's nose cut, but the shade still his. Downey stumbled once in the second frame, but came back laughing and guarding with his shiny, slippery pate, as well as with his dukes. The third saw Tribby pepless. He laughed his way through the last two, spurting once in a while and landing a few, but with not an ounce of pep to spare."
