Bryan appeared to be clearly ahead heading into the eighth round when Arroyo landed a left hook to end Bryan's night, bringing the crowd to their feet. Many ringsiders were debating if Arroyo landed the knockout blow when Bryan was down on the canvas or on the way down.

Before the knockout, Bryan had won all seven rounds on two of the judges cards and six rounds on the third card.
