Kennedy appeared to win the first sixth rounds and the ninth with jab combinations, accumulating a win on points. Beranza's counter left hand over the Kennedy right closed Kennedy's right eye in the seventh. Beranza kept applying pressure in the second half of the bout by landing numerous power shots, and by the end of round 12, Kennedy's left eye was nearly swollen shut as well. Beranza appeared to win the seventh, eight, tenth, eleventh and twelfth rounds. Some of the rounds were close, though, and one card was originally announced as 113-113. Kennedy retained USBA super Bantamweight title.
