Jose Juan Fuentes 144 lbs beat Esteban Almaraz 142 lbs by UD in round 6 of 6

In a televised MSG light welterweight bout, Almaraz won the first with a good left jab. Fuentes appeared to win rounds two, four, five and six with a left jab followed by an overhand right in combination. Almaraz sustained a bad bloody cut below the left eyebrow, ruled to be caused by a punch, prompting referee Lawrence Cole to stop the clock and call in the ringside doctor to examine the injury with eight seconds left in round two and investigate the cause. The Alvaraz corner continued working on the cut at the end of rounds 2, 3, 4 and 5, with blood appearing to flow from the side of the cut, but not downward so it did not affect Alvaraz' vision. The fight was allowed to to continue to the end as Alvaraz remained competitive, including landing an overhand right in round 3 which put a welt on the cheek of Fuentes. The ringside commentator remarked Fuentes was a rarity in that he had no tattoos. Alvaraz fought an even third, and knocked out Fuentes mouthpiece early in the fourth with an overhand right, though Fuentes won that round.
