This was a close fight, according to the Brooklyn Eagle. Feldman gave Paul a mouse on his eye in the middle rounds, which eventually swelled up, and played a part in his loss. Feldman closed strongly, with the eye closing in the 9th round.
Coney Island Velodrome, New York, Aug. 25— Special to the Courier-Express Tommy Paul, Buffalo's fighting machine and recognized holder of the N. B. A. title,waged a terrific battle here tonight at the Coney Island Velodrome only to lose a ten-round decision to Lew Feldman, New York's featherweight champion, before 7,000 partisan fans. Fortunately Paul's title was not at stake, as the Buffalo pride entered the ring at 128 as compared with Feldman's 126 1/2. The battle was very even, with the final count showing four rounds for Feldman. three for Paul and three even.
Paul had some difficulty in piercing his rival's defense. Feldman holding him at bay with a disturbing left jab. Tommy did his best work in the early rounds, especially in the third, when he ripped open an old cut on Feldman's nose, causing the claret to flow clearly and throughout the rest of the battle.On the other hand. Paul sustained a swollen left left eye and bloody nose in the ninth.
