In a ten round middleweight bout, 37 year old Saul Duran, a first round knockout victim in his previous bout, still was the aggressor and had enough left to win a unanimous ten round decision over 48 year old 'Macho' Hector Camacho in a war of jabs and holding. The bout was won by Duran in the first, who landed a straight right hand which dropped Camacho for a flash knockdown but resulted in a 10-8 round. Camacho came back in the first by landing many consistent jab combinations. From that point on, though, Camacho showed the effects of age and spend the majority of the bout grabbing and holding whenever possible, and could have been penalized a good deal more than he was, but as it stood the strategy made him look old and his skills were eroded. In rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5, both fighters then threw a lot of jabs which either missed or were not effective. Camacho fell behind, however, when the referee took finally a point away for excessive holding in the fifth. Camacho came back and won the sixth and seventh rounds with power shots, jabs and good ring generalship, his best rounds of the fight, keeping on the move. The eighth looked even with both fighters landing jabs. In the ninth round, Duran landed body shots at will on a tired and aging Camacho, who was gassed and grabbing on to survive. The final round featured jabbing and holding, advantage to Duran again. In the end, with 79 wins in his career, southpaw Hector Camacho still had the legs, but his skills were only memories and he no longer had the power, hand speed, ability or consistency to win a ten rounder against a limited Mexican boxer who had lost 8 of his last 10 bouts, with the majority of Saul Duran's losses in his native hometown of Chihuahua, Mexico.
