Alex Perez 148 lbs beat Edvan dos Santos Barros 149 lbs by UD in round 8 of 8

In a welterweight contest, Alex Perez of Newark, New Jersey, went to 12-0, seven kayos, with an eight round decision over Edvan Dos Santos Barros, a Brazilian fighter out of Boca Raton, Florida, now 10-10-1, 7 kayos. Perez landed cleaner shots from the opening bell, wobbling Barros and setting the tempo. Barros began with a plan, landing body shots which scored, then tried to bait Perez into corners, spin him around and then attack Perez while pinning him against the ropes. Perez spun out right away to avoid the trap. Both fighters slugged it out, with Perez winning the exchanges. The fifth appeared cautious and even in center ring. In rounds 6 and 7, both fighters traded bombs in center ring. Perez, winning most rounds, was content to outbox his opponent in round 8 without trying for a knockout. Barros moved well around the ring, and boxed well, just not well enough to out punch Perez most of the time. Perez holds the WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation title belt, which he showed in the ring after the bout, but the WBC CABOFE title was not at stake.
