Perez stops ruiz.jpg

Unbeaten Newark, New Jersey lightweight prospect, Mike “Michael Angelo “The Artist” Perez, made quick work of Jorge Ruiz, stopping him in the opening round of a scheduled six round lightweight bout.

It was another good step in the maturation process of the twenty year old Perez, who is quickly making a name for himself across the country. His opponent, the thirty one year Cuban Jorge Ruiz, now fighting out of Miami, Florida, had tested some of the best in his career and hoped to pull an upset early as he aggressively went to the body right from the opening bell.

Perez took his time with sharp shots behind a good jab while probing for an opening. He found it late in the first round, flooring the wily veteran with a double left hook on the button. Ruiz rose to his feet and tried to fight back while on the retreat. “Michael Angelo the artist” saw his opening and finished his latest masterpiece with and explosive three punch combination as Ruiz hit the canvas like a ton of bricks. The fight was stopped without a count at the 2:29 mark of the opening round.

Mike Perez ups his record to 9-0-1, 4 KOs, while Jorge Ruiz falls to 7-13-1. [1]
