Eddie Caminero 172 lbs beat Joe Smith Jr 172 lbs by TKO at 2:58 in round 4 of 6

In a competitive super middleweight bout with a strange ending, Eric Caminero rose to 7-3, all wins by knockout, with an upset fourth round TKO of previously undefeated Joe Smith Jr. of Long Island, New York, now 6-1, 6 kayos. Smith used jabs to win the first round. Caminero mixed jabs and power shots to win rounds two and three. Smith was winning the fourth on his jab when a straight left by Caminero appeared to either break or seriously injure Smith's jaw. Smith turned his back to Caminero, draped himself over the ring ropes and just 'gave up', appearing out of it. The bout had not stopped and as Caminero moved in on Smith from behind referee Eddie Claudio stepped in front of Caminero to protect Smith (with his back turned) from serious injury and stopped the bout. Smith was able to leave the ring unassisted.
