Mike Ruiz 149 lbs beat Josh Beeman 149 lbs by UD in round 6 of 6

In the preliminary bout to the Dmitriy Salita versus Franklin Gonzalez main event at Oceana Hall in Brighton Beach Brooklyn, New York, junior middleweight Mike Ruiz of Long Island won a six round unanimous decision over 'steamin' Josh Beeman in a bout which featured a surprise ending. Ruiz, with a muscular appearance, came forward in the first two rounds with a hard left and won both rounds. Beeman, who physique appeared ordinary, got on his bicycle and moved sideways left and right to stay out of range. Ruiz managed to trap Beeman on the ropes and landed a hard left jab which dropped Beeman for an eight count. Beeman landed many left-right combinations as well as some counters to win round three, but was also grabbing and leaning with his head. Ruiz landed a lot of power shots to the body and right-left combinations to win rounds four and five. Beeman, who landed some right hand counters, kept complaining to the referee of low blows. In the sixth round, Ruiz appeared to win the round with jab combinations. The action stopped several times as Beeman's right hand tape kept unraveling and had to be retaped. The high point of the bout came with a minute left till the final bell. Ruiz, who came forward as the aggressor for all six rounds throwing a high number of straight punches, punched himself out and ran out of gas with a minute remaining in the bout. Beeman, who boxed cautiously and had NOT punched himself out, seized the opportunity, came forward and trapped Ruiz on the ropes. With 30 seconds left, Beeman threw everything he had and battered Ruiz badly, giving him a beating in a corner with nonstop left and right hand power shots till the bout ended and bringing the crowd to its feet. Both fighters warmly embraced each other in friendship at the bout's conclusion, with no ill will between the two fighters. The scoring appeared to be fair.
