Charley Gouse and Sam Nolan were the contestants in the only Triple knockout in ring history, August 11, 1916, at Genesee Arena, Rochester, NY. In the sixth round both fighters did a good deal of slugging. Nolan was knocked down twice, but a few seconds before the bell, he landed a long right. Gouse went down and the exhausted Nolan fell simultaneously. It was a double knockout. Both were saved by the bell and dragged back to their corners and came back for the next round. Gouse knocked out Nolan the second time in the eighth round to win the fight. The referee was Claude Tibbetts of Albany, NY.
