Lewis had been scheduled to face Vicente Parrile, bet Parrile was held by Springfield, Illinois police on behalf of immigration authorities. This necessitated the substitution of Davis, who chose to slug it out with Lewis. Lewis knocked Davis down four times in the 2nd round. Davis again went after Lewis in the 3rd, and was put down two more times, with the finish blow being a right hand to the jaw.
