This was a close decision, which was booed by many of the fans. Booker scored a two-count knockdown in the 1st round with a right to the chin. Booker appeared slow and off, as Wakefield was able to score with right hands in the boutl. Wakefield injured his left hand in the 7th round, while Booker injured his right hand in the same round.

Wakefield agreed with the decision though, and was quoted as stating "the referee was right.", as did Wakefield's manager Shorty Donaldson.
