Jannazzo got off to a good start in the bout, as he used his left jab effectively in the first two rounds, while cutting Abrams' left eye. Abrams was able to crowd Jannazzo after that and scored with his left, and cut Jannazzo's right eye in the 7th round. The Baltimore Sun stated "It was a fast, interesting battle in which the superior punching power of the heavier Abrams outscored the speed with both hand and foot of the Maryland welterweight champion."
