Gara came out to start the bout aggressively, pounding Hawkins all over the ring and reddening his face. Gara resume his attack in the 2nd round, but in the middle of the round, he was nailed by Hawkins in the pit of the stomach for a nine-count knockdown. Hawkins now swarmed all over Gara, and put him down twice more, before the bout was stopped.
