From The Ring, February 1938, page 56: "The Herkimer Hurricane met Charlie Burns, the Johnstown Express, in ten torrid heats.. Ambers had the devil's own time of it and found himself the papa of a photo finish which was booed by the fans. Had Ambers been just another fighter instead of the champion, he'd have been lucky with a draw. Burns fought him to a standstill and made a big hit in so doing." The St. Louis Post-Dispatch favored Ambers 53-47. The St. Louis Star-Times agreed with the decision as well, feeling that Ambers pulled it out in the last four rounds.
