Escalera Versus Scarborough
New Jersey light heavyweight prospect Jason Escalera of Union City, New Jersey, knocked out Mickey Scarborough of Kansas City, Missouri, in the second round. Escalera was landing overhand straight jabs and power shots with both hands, and all the outclassed Scarborough could do after getting dropped in the second round and getting up was run. Escalera played the cat and Scarborough played the mouse for more than a minute, going round and round in circles until Escalera cut off the ring in a corner. Several Escalera power shots to the head sent Scarborough face first to the canvas, knocked out, with the referee signaling knockout without a count. Scarborough was out cold. This bout was an undercard bout on Azteca Televison's 'Boxeo Azteca' first ever televised card, a Star Boxing Promotion broadcast from the Tropicana Hotel and Casino Showroom in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Fortunately, Scarborough was able to leave the ring a short time after the knockout of his own power and appeared to be okay.
