  • Wright in big trouble in the first round, hanging on for dear life in serious trouble. Ruiz' best round at 10-8, but he failed to put Wright away when he was ready to go.
  • Wright appeared to win rounds two through ten easily behind his left and right straight head jabs, and good body work, using height and reach advantage successfully.
  • Ruiz down in the seventh and ninth rounds. Ruiz hung tough, but proved vulnerable to a straight right over his low left, as he frequently fought with his left arm down.
  • In the ninth, Wright knocked Ruiz through the ropes in Wright's corner. Ruiz went out of the ring backwards, and into the lap of Wright's trainer, Sherif Younan, who politely pushed Ruiz off of him, and inadvertently back onto the ring apron in the heat of the moment, enabling Ruiz to crawl back into the ring and beat the count in progress. "I wasn't helping Ruiz," explained Younan to an official at ringside, "I was just trying to get him off of me."

Mateen worked the corner of his brother Hamid Abdul-Mateen in a four round cruiserweight bout.
