Philadelphia Heavyweight Chazz Witherspoon scored a third round knockout of Ty Cobb of Texas on the undercard of Azteca Television's 'Boxeo Azteca' first televised boxing card. This bout was a walkout bout on the Star Boxing card. Witherspoon knocked down the overweight Cobb three times in the second, the third time near the bell ending round two. Cobb beat the count, and referee Lindsay Page waved the bout to continue. But Witherspoon pointed to the timekeeper, shouting the bell had rang while Page was counting. The bell had rung, a gentlemanly and astute gesture by Witherspoon, who came out in the third round and landed an overhand right which kayoed Cobb face first, the referee not bothering to count. Reader's note: the boxing 'Ty Cobb' is no relation to 'Hall of Fame ballplayer Ty Cobb'.
