- Gauthier appeared to be the busier fighter, throwing more punches, with Molitor counter-punching effectively wherever possible
- Did not appear to be a close bout, but with both fighters bleeding from eye cuts, the dual injuries offset each other from the early going and influenced the scoring in different directions
- Molitor's cut was worse. He was bleeding very badly from a long cut off the side of the left eye, and the corner was not doing a good job on the cut, however the blood was not going into the eye and did not affect his vision.
- The ringside doctor looked at Molitor's profusely bleeding cut carefully, Molitor to him while standing, he said he was okay to finish the bout so the doctor gave Molitor another chance at the start of the tenth and final round
- Significant bout for Molitor to obtain a rematch and attempt to regain his IBF Super Bantamweight title from Takalani Ndlovu.
