Armstrong dominated from the start. In the 4th round, Armstrong drove Bass to the ropes with two right hands. With his back against the ropes, Armstrong landed three more right hooks, and Bass crashed to the canvas. Bass landed on his side, and attempted to regain his feet, just missing the ten-count.

This was the only time in his career that Bass was counted out.
