In the middle of the 2nd round, Pete Podgorski scored with a nice stiff jab. The World rated Shields, responded with a combination of body shots that put Podgorski down. Podgorski , got up and Shields went right back to the body and put Podgorski down again. This time with another body shot to the opposite side.

This prompted the referee to call a halt to the scheduled ten round bout.
